The Makkah clock tower is crowned by a 23m diameter crescent. The monocoque structure from interwoven carbon and glass fibre is clad with mosaic tiles, providing a suitable weather protection. Inside there are the building’s topmost floor levels that, as of today, constitute the highest living spaces of any building at a height of 592 m.
The crescent is produced and installed in 5 large parts: The “Hub” or central section is connected to the building’s main steel structure. East and West sections are made of other two parts (mid and tips), all sections are connected through bolts and the full erection required less than one day.
