Humidity is King

Three projects in the tropics. “Recycling existing architecture” a common idea that lays behind those tropical projects, getting away from the obsession for demolition of existing architectures but to transform them and adapt to new life.

  1. A small bungalow from the 50’s transformed in 2 stories lawyer office. Taman Seputeh, Kuala Lumpur

The small surface are of the little bungalow were insufficient for the office so the perimetrical walls were kept and from the inside a new steel and glass box was erected together with a generous footing roof, with large overhangs to protect the windows. All construct was custom made for this project, inclusive large part of the furnitures such libraries, desks and tables.

2. Many details have revolutionised a 70’s house for a young family. Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, M’sia.

The original roof was kept but the lack of cantilever required many inserts to protect the facade opening in order to guarantee natural ventilation also during heavy rainy seasons. All external new inserts were made out of fair face concrete

3. A new entrance required a new roof. Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The relocation of the entry door minimised the interior layout alterations. A new light canopy attached to the external wall was added to protect the visitor from the parking to the entry
